Every person deserves a decent life, but wealth is highly unevenly distributed. Despite the progress in reducing poverty, millions of people continue to suffer from lack of income and limited access to productive resources. In fact, poverty not only entails the lack of income and access to productive resources, but also hunger and malnutrition, inadequate access to education, health and other basic services, discrimination, exclusion and the lack of participation in decision-making. The Economics Circle recognize the importance given to the eradication of poverty at global level, but also notes that the measures taken are not adequate to achieve a world without poverty. In this connection, the Circle considers poverty alleviation among the six major focus areas.
